How are we wired? -Finding Your 7 Motivations-

7 Motivational Gifts of Rom 12:

7 truths about God-given gifts

Rom 12:3-8 NIV

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

The 7 motivational gifts:-

Motivation =

desire, inspiration, drive, energy, competence, achievement, excellence, aptitude, stimulus, trigger, catalyst, interest, reason, godly ambition, initiative, work ethic, incentive, determination, never-say-die, focus,

—> purpose and life goals

De-motivated =

opposite -  dis-oriented, disheartened, dis-interested, dis-passionate, depressed, de-motivated, no drive, no energy, no goals,

—> no purpose or life goals.

So …Discover and Invest.

The 7 listed:-

  1. prophesying
  2. serving
  3. teaching
  4. encouraging
  5. giving
  6. leading
  7. showing mercy

7 truths about gifts

1.All are good gifts for us, chosen especially by Our Father.

Eph 1:4 NIV

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love

Eph 2:10 NIV

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do

Jer 29:11 NIV

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

James 1:17 NIV

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

2.All are for the 'common good’. We all have a contribution in our gift area.

It’s not ‘my ministry’,

Ps 100:2 NIV

Serve the Lord with gladness'

“It’s not to ‘have to’, but the ‘want to’.

=Grow Course and DREAMTEAM

3.All are ‘grace’ gifts and to be received with joy. Grace and gift joy are linked in the Greek.

Rom 12:6 NIV

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.

'WE HAVE (pl.) charisma according to the charis given to us (pl.)’

The suffix ‘-ma’ means ‘made from’. Gifts made of charis.

-Joy - chairo comes from this 'group of 3' words in the Greek.

4.Jesus had all in perfect balance. He is the only 'perfect man'.

Heb 1:3 NIV

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven

5.Discover and develop the bits and pieces (DNA) of gifting as God selected for you.

We all have a combination of all. But they are not perfected.

-So be alert …All need discovery (assessment)  Explanation and assessment is the first step.

-Then there needs constant investment (priority of gift, passion, temperament).

-10,000 hours (Malcolm Gladwell).

Acts 6:2-4 NIV

So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

6.Usage means fruitfulness and satisfaction and ‘prosperity' (good road/journey)

Jn 15:16a NIV

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.

7.Use it or lose it.

Mat 25:28-30 NIV

“‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
